Paying with Credit Cards

You may think that the best way to pay for everything wedding-related is to do so with cash. That way,you won’t have any debt hanging over your head after the festivities are over. There’s one reason that you shouldn’t use this logic for paying wedding vendors directly.

If you pay for services in cash and then something goes wrong you’re out that money, and there’s nothing you can do short of legal action to get it back. However,if you pay for everything with your credit card, you at least have the law on your side should  something go wrong.

The law of which I speak is the Fair Credit Billing Act,which protects consumers against charges on a credit card “for goods and services [that] weren’t delivered as agreed,”according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) website at www.ftc.gov.(The FTC enforces the Fair Credit Billing Act.) These goods or services might include the bridal salon that doesn’t deliver your wedding gown by the date it promises or a stationer who messes up your invitation order—and doesn’t do anything to fix it.

In addition to the law,if you want to dispute services or goods you paid for
with your credit card, you have companies like American Express,MasterCard, Visa, and Discover to back you up.Most credit card companies offer these kinds of customer protections but check with your credit card issuer first before deciding which credit card to use when paying for your wedding-related goods and services. I would recommend going with the “plastic”that offers the most protection for yourneeds.
